Trends Gone Wrong

Do you think someone who would wear this should be allowed to host Project Runway?

I generally like the Marc Jacobs collection. However, I can't understand why this Cowl Neck Dress ($2,200) made the cut. I don't see how it could be flattering on anyone if Christy Turlington can't make it look good.

I saw Gwen Stefani in this Vivienne Westwood dress with L.A.M.B. accessories and I just had to laugh out loud. What was she thinking? You know it kinda reminds me of something Delta Burke would wear on Designing Women. I still wonder whether or not she was going to a costume party. Hello Gwen, this isn't 1986 and you've got nothing to hide, why did you put this on?
I love her
L.A.M.B. accessories, perhaps she should have paired them with one of her own creations, like this adorable
L.A.M.B. Plaid Dress ($365), like the L.A.M.B. dress worn by Kelly Rippa.

I saw these two pictures and I just had to share them with you all as examples of what not to wear.
Please, don't ever pair your Keds with what looks like a child's dress from Little House on the Prarie a la Mischa Barton -
And please, don't match over-sized skinny jeans with Converses and white socks like Kate Bosworth - yuck!
Like the shoes (minus the hideous outfits)? Mischa's
Distressed Keds are unique and Kate's
Converses are simple yet cute -

Now I know that trends in fashion are always recycled from decades past, but I think that Nicole Richie's recent hippie look is a little extreme. Especially since I'm unaware of any such return to flower-power style. Although the world might be a better place if we start protesting this war!

Oh Cindy, what were you thinking when you wore this
Munthe “gown” to the Stephen Knoll hair care launch party? It looks like you got in a cat fight on the way there and someone ripped off the bottom half. Not that the top has much going for it either- it huggs in all the wrong places! Please, even if you have a body like Cindy Crawford’s, don’t just assume you’ll look good in anything, because you won’t!

celebs wearing sequins.

Is it just me, or does this Christian Lacroix dress make Kirsten Dunst look like either (a) she has no cleavage or (b) she is pregnant? Indigo dresses and ribbon detail are both really hot looks for this season, but I can not understand what Lacroix was thinking when he designed this. I think he is confusing couture with gift-wrapping.
What makes this ensemble bearable? Kirsten Dunst's slightly-messy updo and black flats are fantastic. They prove that you can be both glamourous and comfortable.
If you want to get a pair of black flats that are perfect for evening wear, the
Marc Jacobs Bow Flat Shoes (below) are a great choice.
You can also get some great
Delman Parker Flats
, as worn by Debi Mazar to the L.A. premiere of the HBO drama "Rome" (sorry about the size of the photo, it was the best I could find.)

Just to prove that even "real" celebs can get it wrong, I've included the following picture of Kate Hudson at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Elizabethtown.
Not that I really have to explain what is wrong with this outfit, but I will. All celebs should know that just because it is a trend does not mean it is going to look good on you. It is equally as true that wearing multiple trends is not usually a great idea. Below, Kate is mixing the trend of wearing a rich folkloric pattern with velvet, another trend for Fall 2005. The dress (or is it a jumper, I can't tell) has a very dull pattern- in fact, it looks like some bedsheets we had in my house as kid. Just compare it to the bold, interesting patterns seen on Paris Hilton and Sanaa Lathan. That is not to mention the fact that it is completely unflattering and shapeless.
So lesson to all of us celebs: always wear clothes that are flattering and don't mix too many trends together.
Want to look good in a vibrant folkloric pattern? You can get the Marc by Marc Jacobs Floral Gems Cotton Dress, featured below, at Net a Porter.
